KUROMUTA YAKI-Ceramics of Saga Prefecture 黒牟田焼

Kuromuta Yaki is made in Takeo, Saga Prefecture.

I think this is Kuromuta Yaki. It is not marked but it looks very much like the work of Maruta Masami.
He used the simple plant motif in this style on many pieces. He studied under Shoji Hamada and perhaps this motif was influenced by him.

  1. We recently stumbled upon some old oriental vases and a small tea cup, and we are striking out in all attempts to find any real information on where they came from. Seem all I've been told is maybe per 1921 or made for domestic not export an absolutely no information on the mark. It is contains an elephant whole left facing trunk raised, a wreath and a crown with initials N.P. and E.A. any information would be greatly appreciated.

  2. It is hard to tell without seeing both the pieces and their marks.
