KANEDAI

There is not much about Kanedai China to be found in English on line, although there are many sites selling replacements, sets or pieces of various patterns. The common patterns seen on ebay, etc. are Ivy, Canyon Pine, and Romany. I have seen one made in Occupied Japan, so that would have placed the manufacture in the late 1940's or so.

What I found in Japanese is that the company, Kanedai Shirokiya, Inc.,  was established in 1902. It is located in Toki City, Gifu, Japan. This region ( Gifu-Mino and Aichi-Seto) produces most of the tableware used in Japan, as well as exports.

This pattern of china seems to have been quite popular. Various pieces of the original set are sold on many internet sites.

  3. I would like to know the approximate date of production of the pattern "Ivy" by Kanedai. I just received a full 12 piece place setting from my grandmother after she passed away.

    1. There is not a lot of information out there on this company and your pattern. All I found in Japanese was the company profile and current patterns. My feeling is that the pattern you have is probably from the 1950's or 1960's, given the type of pattern. Many servicemen also shipped china home to families when stationed in Japan.

  4. I have a rose coloured 12" dinner platter that is stamped Kanedai Made on Occupied Japan. The pattern has 5 houses, a bridge, boat, 2 horses, 2 men, one holding a large fish, among other things. I found a similar one on ebay but it was smaller and a different pattern. What can you tell me about mine?

  5. I am not familiar with the pattern you described. I can tell you that if it says Made In Occupied Japan then it was made after the war, but before 1952. I don't know much about Kanedai. A lot of companies made exports during this period and many have gone out of business. There do not appear to be many records. If I come across additional information I will post it.
